Chapter 4: The apple doesn't fall far from the tree

I loved the conversation Maryam and Sami had about parenthood. Sami says you can’t give back an adopted child if it doesn’t work out, and Maryam reminds him that you can’t give back a child you gave birth to. He says you can tolerate traits in your child that you recognize as your own, but Maryam warns him your child may inherit the traits you don’t like in yourself.

Maryam says "When your children resemble you, you tend to forget they're not you. Much better to be reminded they're not, every time you set your eyes on them."

Sometimes I love to think about my family and the traits we share (physical looks, habits, preferences), and sometimes when I open my mouth, I'm surprised and a bit embarrassed to hear I sound exactly like my parents.
