In the spring of 2008, spouses&partners@mit spent the semester reading Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake together. We enjoyed book discussions, attended a reading by the author, and watched the film based on the novel.
This semester, I invite you to read Digging to America by Anne Tyler.
This novel explores the relationship between two families who have adopted children from Korea. One family might be described as a typical white American family, the other is a family of Iranian immigrants. Much of the story centered on Maryam Yazdan, one of the grandmothers, and her perspective on family, culture, and what it means to be an American.
Starting February 23, I’ll be blogging about the book as I read it. My plan is to read and post about one chapter per week. I hope you will join me as we share this story together.
